From 2026 onwards the seabird nesting island of Hornoya in the Varanger region of Northern Norway is only accessible to a certain number of visitors and can only be explored with a guide who has the licence to guide at Hornoya from the local authorities. This is to first and foremost protect the vulnerable Arctic wildlife refuge and to ensure the safety of wildlife and guests.
We at Aurora Holidays can operate tours to the island as licensed guides and have a yearly quota of visitors we can indulge in the wonders of the Puffin island. We are also easy to reach without having to arrange transportation yourself, as we are located on the Finnish side of the border in Utsjoki. Close to airports such as Ivalo (Finland) and Kirkenes (Norway) and you can add airport pick up to your stay.
For 2026 early spring we have put together a nature photographer’s dream escape to the wonders of the wintery Arctic Nature.
This three night all inclusive package includes:
- a day on Hornoya island photographing and admiring puffins and other seabirds in Arctic winter conditions.
- a day on the Arctic Ocean experiencing and photographing the bird life from a different perspective: from water level from a boat. We get to experience the huge kittywake colony cliffs from the ocean side, find various seabirds at the marina and on the sea, AND possibly find porpoises, fin whales, minke whales, white beaked dolphins, Orcas or even humpbacks to enjoy while out.
- a guided evening of northern lights chasing and photography at one of the best locations in the world for stunning Auroras in Arctic Landscapes.
- Accommodation in well equipped cozy cabins with a private sauna.
- all meals during your stay prepared for most dietary needs.
- all transportation during your stay to the excursion and activities.
