How to travel to Utsjoki

Utsjoki may seem far away but it is actually very easy to get here.

Be prepared to spend a bit of time in a car. Our prices do not include flights but we will collect you from the airport in Ivalo and take you back there at the end of your holiday free of charge, if you have booked a package with us.

Fly to Ivalo or Kirkenes

Flying to us is by far the quickest and easiest way of transportation. Utsjoki is accessible via two main airports in the north: Ivalo and Kirkenes. Airport transfer from Ivalo is included in your holidays package. Contact us in advance if you plan on flying to Kirkenes and need transport.

Fly to Ivalo with Finnair (through Helsinki or direct from select European cities) or to Kirkenes with SAS or Norwegian (through Oslo).

Take the bus to/from Santa Claus village

Many of our visitors want to check out Rovaniemi and the Santa Claus village in addition to their visit to Utsjoki.

If you choose to do so, there is a bus that you can use. We recommend you visit Rovaniemi after your stay in Utsjoki.

You can visit us by car too

If you wish to rent a car in the summer or fall and drive here by yourself, please let us know.

We can tell you more about coming here by car.

In the winter, we don’t recommend it, unless you are a very experienced driver in winter conditions.

In all cases, please contact us before booking your transportation so that we can advise you on our pick-up possibilities: we do have a set schedule for our airport transportation. We are very flexible, however, keep in mind that we may have to combine the schedules of several guests. This also allows us to optimize our rides and as a result reduce our carbon footprint.

Some tips to travel to Utsjoki

01. Flights recommendations

Please fly to Ivalo or Kirkenes​

We will pick you up  at Ivalo airport on the first day of your holiday. We will bring you back to the airport on the last day. Please note that we are located some 2.5 hours one way from either airport, so we can only do one pick-up/drop-off per day which is why we follow a set schedule for the airport transportation.
Try to book a flight that arrives Ivalo in the Tuesday afternoon, around 1pm. On Sunday, the best departure flight are the ones departing around 1pm. We pick you up from Ivalo at 13:30 on Tuesday and drop you off at 11:30 on Sunday. Note that you might be better off arriving to Ivalo already on Monday, depending on your flights.

02. Bus services

If you are planning to visit Rovaniemi / Santa Claus before or after your visit in Utsjoki, here is the bus you can use when traveling from Rovaniemi to Ivalo or back.

Bus schedules are different in the summer and winter, so please check the right schedule according your departure day.

When you combine a visit to Rovaniemi, it is usually easier to come first to Utsjoki, and visit Santa Claus on your way back. In any doubt, please contact us and we will advise you on the best schedule.

03. By car

If you wish to rent a car in the summer or fall and drive here by yourself, please let us know.

We can tell you more about coming here by car.

In the winter, we don’t recommend it, unless you are a very experienced driver in winter conditions. Our holiday packages include all the transportation you might need – renting a car is not necessary at all.
