You decide what kind of a holiday you’d like to have. You can spend your days in and around the cottages or you can take part in our organized activities. It’s up to you! You can let us know which activities you’d like to participate in when you book your holiday or at the latest a month before your arrival. This gives us and our cooperation partners time to plan ahead. The activities will be paid by the end of your holiday. The duration given for each activity is an estimation and can vary.

Please note that if you have booked the summer package, the village tour of Utsjoki is already included.If you are not staying with us but would like to join some of the activities, transportation from and to your accommodation (up to 20km from Utsjoki village) is included in the price.

GUIDED HIKE FOR BEGINNERS

UTSJOKI VILLAGE TOUR

Duration: 3 – 4 Hours in the morning/afternoon
Day: Thursday
Availability: all seasons
Cost: No extra charge for our guests, 15€ for others

Join us for a tour of Utsjoki village and learn more about the local culture and way of life. We will visit the Sami bridge (border bridge), where you not only get some great views of one if Europe’s largest salmon fishing rivers, but you also have the chance to stand with one foot in Norway and the other in Finland. You will have the chance to visit our local café Giisa and souvenir shop with handmade souvenirs, made by local artists. Perfect to warm up with a hot drink and try some local sweet treats. The tour will also take you to Utsjoki church and Kirkkotuvat, the church huts. This trip does not need to be booked before you arrival. If you’d like to see the village with us, just let us know upon your arrival.

BERRY PICKING & SAMPLING

Duration: 3-4 hours
Day: Thursday (other days available upon request)
Availability: July – September (depending on when the berries are ripe)
Cost: 60€ for our guests, 75€ for others (Incl. berry picking guidance, sampling & ingredients to prepare your own berry pancakes over the fire)

The nature here in Utsjoki is not only breathtakingly beautiful but it also offers many other perks like fresh berries. We will take you for a walk and show you how to identify & pick some of the local berry varieties. We are local to the area and know all the best spots. Depending on the month we might be able to find blueberries, lingonberries or delicious cloudberries that Lapland is so famous for. After we have spent some time outdoors and found enough tasty, fresh berries we will head back to our very own private hut where we can sample everything we picked. Try delicious blueberry pancakes or some typical desserts with cloudberries.

MIDNIGHT SUMMER PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR

Duration: 3 – 4h

The summer is a very special season here in Utsjoki, the time of the Midnight Sun. From late May until mid-July the sun doesn’t set, which is something that can only be experienced in very few locations worldwide. During our Midnight Sun photography tour we will share some of the most photogenic locations to capture this extraordinary phenomenon with you. You will have the chance to capture jaw-dropping landscapes with a hint of sunlight in the middle of the night.

No previous experience in photography? No problem. You don’t need a DSLR camera for this excursion. Take your phone, action camera or simply enjoy the views and let us do the work. We can take the photos for you and send you the finished results afterwards.

SCENIC HUSKY WALK & VISIT TO TANA BRU, NORWAY

Duration: 4-5 hours (Incl. 2h return drive to & from Norway)
Day: Friday (other days available upon request)
Availability: All season
Cost: 95€ for our guests, 110€ for others (Incl. guide, transportation, warm drinks during the walk, photos of you & the dogs)

Join Dag Broch from Tana Bru in Norway, one of Norway’s leading husky sled drivers, on a scenic walk with his Alaskan huskies. Enjoy the peaceful landscape & charming personalities of his dog team on this 90 minute trip up to a nice view-point. You will have the chance to get an insight into Dag’s life as a dog musher and hear his stories about the sled dog races. Warm drinks will be served during the walk.

After the Husky adventure, we will drive you to Tana bru where you have the opportunity to visit a local jewellery shop with handmade Sami jewellery, wooden handicraft and decorations.

HUSKY ADVENTURE AND A VISIT TO TANA BRU, NORWAY

Duration: 4-5 Hours in the morning/afternoon (Incl. 2h return drive to & from Norway)

No snow? No problem! The husky adventure we will take you to is a little different from most. Instead of a set path that you go around once or twice, Dag Broch from Tana Bru in Norway, one of Norway’s leading husky sled drivers, will take you into the Norwegian wilderness with his team of Alaskan huskies. We will arrive at Tana Husky in the morning and get a short introduction in how to drive the dog wagon. You will set off with a guide driving your wagon.

During the 45 minute trip, you will get to enjoy the peace and silence of nature as you drive with the dogs through the wilderness. After the trip you will have the chance to meet the dogs and take pictures with them.

After the Husky adventure, we will drive you to Tana bru where you have the opportunity to visit a local jewellery shop with handmade Sami jewellery, wooden handicraft and decorations.

Please note that this trip involves a wagon, not a sled and is subject to change due to a temperature limit of 14’C to ensure the animals’ welfare.

INTRODUCTION TO SÁMI CULTURE – SIIDA, SÁMI MUSEUM IN INARI

Duration: 5-6 hours (Incl. 3 hours return drive to & from Inari)

Want to learn about the indigenous people of Lapland and their way of life? Then this day trip to the Siida Sami Museum in Inari is perfect for you!

Siida is the National Museum of the Finnish Sami with various permanent and temporary exhibitions that will give you an insight into Sami culture and history here in Finnish Lapland over the years.

This museum is far from dull. The permanent exhibitions use not only visuals to bring the Sami culture to life, but a range of soundscapes and authentic Sami tools and clothing. For more information about the museum and their temporary exhibitions, you can check their website here here.

Join us on a trip to the Sami Museum in Varangerbotn to learn more about the culture and history of the Coastal Sami in the Varangerfjord area. The museum visit will be followed by a trip to Nesseby church and other picturesque photo stops in Varangerfjord. Varangerfjord is home to a great range of marine wildlife and birds. So keep your eyes peeled, we might spot some of the on our trip. There is the possibility to have lunch in Varangerbotn, please feel free to let us know if that’s something you would like to do.
